Tip 3/29/10
Tip for Week 3/29/10

When you are working in the layout tabs, a simple way to get in the modelspace mode of a viewport is to double-click inside of it. If you want to return to paperspace, just double-click outside of any viewports on the tab.

This is very simple, except if you are zoomed in to a viewort and can't double-click outside of the border to release you from modelspace mode. Earlier versions of AutoCAD had a button to the right of the drawing tool status buttons (OSAP, ORTHO, etc.) that let you know if you were in Model or Paper mode. This button allowed you to get back into paperspace mode without having to double-click outside the viewport.

These buttons have not only moved from the original position, but they are
not visible when you first install AutoCAD Map 3D 2009.

To show the viewport mode button, Right-click on an unused area of the status bar at the bottom of your screen.

The only item in the list not checked is Paper/Model.
Left click on this listing to activate the button.

You can now use this button to enter or exit modelspace mode of a viewport.

Note: If you are in the modelspace mode of layout tab viewport and want to get back into paperspace using the command line, enter PSPACE and issue a return with the enter key or space bar.

FYI: The AutoCAD help file shows the buttons as icons, but they are actually only text labeled buttons.
