Need to set up a layout tab quickly with your default printer?  Here's a tried and true method to ensure you have the right printer.

Open the Options dialogue box by right-clicking on the command line and select Options from the bottom of the list. Pick the Plot and Publish tab and in the top left listing, pull down the cascade and select your default printer to apply to any new layout tabs you create. 

Now anytime you right-click on a layout tab and select New Layout, the options setting will apply.
