Last week I discussed how to delete the .BAK files, safely and accurately. This week I'll show you where to find and delete the recent files folder that fills up very quickly if you open a lot of different files.
The recent file shortcuts are buried deep down in the folder structure. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the Documents and Settings folder of local disc C:\. Find the folder with your log-in name and expand it to find the Application Data folder. Next, you need to find the Recent folder that holds all the offending shortcuts by cascading the folders under the Main Autodesk Map 3D 2006 folder. The sequence should be R16.2\enu\Recent. You can now safely delete all the folders and files in the Recent folder.
Keep in mind that a lot of programs contain a similar Recent folder that becomes very large in size over a period of time. You don't need to delete these files every week, but every 3-4 months should be sufficient. |
