Happy New Year!
This year brings good news about creating new files. The Qnew command is a way to make a new file quickly without using a dialogue box to select a template file, hence the Quick new command designation.
Create a file you want to use as a template and save your special settings such as Osnaps and printers. Use the SaveAs command to open the Save Drawing as dialogue box. Give your template a name, such as My Template and change the Files of Type designation to .dwt. When you change the Files of Type the dialogue box will navigate directly to the Template folder for your AutoCAD installation and pick the Save button.
Finally, open the Options dialogue box to the Files tab and expand the Template Settings listing. Now expand the Default Template File Name for Qnew, highlight the none option, and use the Browse button in the top right of the tab. This will default to the installed folder for templates. Pick the newly created My Template.dwt, or what ever name you gave your file, and close the Options dialogue by picking the OK button.
Now anytime you want to use your master template pick the Qnew button and save it to a new file name for the project you're working on. |
