Tip for Week 12/24/07

Hyperlinks are fantastic additions to many files.  Most users associate the hyperlinks to views, files, or web pages, but there are some more useful ways of using hyperlinks when you are the contact in a team environment.

My first suggestion would be to add a hyperlink that will automatically open the default e-mail editor with your address and a pre-defined subject line.  This hyperlink would be associated to your name or initials in the title block.  Probably in the "drawn by" listing.  Simply use the CTRL+K shortcut to prompt you for a selection set of objects to apply the hyperlink to. Select the object(s) and then in the hyperlink dialogue box, select e-mail address from the choices on the left, fill in your info and subject line.  A final click on the OK button and you are done.  AutoCAD will save all of your addresses right there in the dialogue box for easy retrieval the next time!  Now that's really nice.

Another great place to add an e-mail hyperlink to your file would be the revision cloud.  Duh, if there is a question or an RFI to send about the newest revision, why not be courteous and add the e-mail link to the changed area via the revision cloud?  People will be amazed at the hospitality.
