Here's a quick tip to access the snap override curser menu without holding down the Shift key.

A common step to take while a command is active would be to SHIFT+Right-Click and pick a one time, object snap override in order to accurately snap to an objects geometry .  Another method to get to this list of object snap overrides would be to Right-Click in the drawing area when a command is active and expand the cascade marked "Snap Overrides".
