I can't get my drawing to save the layer changes I make to attached xref layers.  A saved layer state won't restore the changes when I open or reload the xref.

The VISRETAIN system variable typically is set to 0.  This drawing variable determines if your changes will remain or not.  Set the VISRETAIN variable to 1 and any layer changes and layer states, affecting xref layers, will stay with your drawing.
