The standard UCS icon looks pretty bland when it's style is set to the typical 2D configuration.  If the 3D orbit command is issued the icon really looks good!  Multiple colors and a 3D look.  The properties for the UCS icon can be manipulated by using the UCSICON command.  Issue the command and use the Properties option at the command line.  A dialogue box will appear with different visual options and a preview.  Pick and choose as desired.  This criteria probably could have been placed in the Options dialogue box originally to be a little more consistent with the standard AutoCAD interface.  Oh well, can't have everything our way.
