Tip for Week 10/1/07

REFEDIT is the best tool to modify block definitions dynamically, but when editing within the REFEDIT command, several of the Windows clipboard items are not available, most cumbersome of all, copy and copy with base point are not available but the differant paste functions are.

A few extra steps will be needed to clipboard copy elements from a block definition when in REFEDIT mode.  If a simple clipboard copy is needed, make a copy the intended object and then use the button with a minus sign to remove the copy from the REFEDIT selection set and return them to your drawing in the original coordinates.  You can then move this selection set to the desired position.

For copy with base point, follow the same steps as before and then add the geometry of a desired basepoint to the selection set.  After you close REFEDIT, move only the objects that don't include the base point geometry and delete the base point geometry after moving or copying.

The selection set could become a Clipboard cut or Clipboard copy selection set after it has been removed from the block definition.
