Do you find it hard to see dynamic or
multi-line text with the new in place editor active?
A simple fix is to use DDEDIT on an
existing piece of text and right-click when the editing boundary is showing.
Select the Opaque Background option to give the background a little color.
The opaque background will also mask any objects behind the text.
