Tip for Week 10/9/06

Does your AutoCAD 2006 crash when trying to open the Layer Properties Manager?  The simple fix is to eliminate the troublesome application window skin.  The new interface uses a skin, or graphic overlay, to make the application window look different than other programs.  This extra skin causes the crash with the Layers Dialogue box, as documented by Autodesk, in this link.

To remove the graphic skin enter MAPSKINMAP at the command line and issue a return.  There will be no command line history, only a change in the border of your application window.  An additional enter will toggle the skin back on, if you wish to see the difference.
