Tip for Week 7/17/06

Here's a little tip for gaining even more screen real estate for drawing.

AutoCAD now allows you to use the CTRL+0 toggle to hide your toolbars.  This is a great option if you use keyboard shortcuts most of the time and the toggle is listed in the View menu pull-down as Clean Screen.

What is not so evident, in the AutoCAD documentation, is the ability to hide the Model and Layout tabs.  First, go to the Options dialogue box by right-clicking on the command line and picking Options from the bottom of the pop-up list.  Now, go to the display tab and in the Layout elements area, un-check the Display Layout and Model tabs check box.  Pick the OK button to return to your AutoCAD interface without Model and Layout tabs!

Savvy users can use the TILEMODE variable to go from one space to the other.  (1) for Model space and (0) for Paperspace.  The MODEL command will switch you from Paperspace to Model space.

If you do little of your work in the layout tabs, this interface is for you.  A workspace or profile can be saved with or without these tabs showing if you need to use the tabs occasionally.  The Workspace option would be a lot quicker than opening the Options dialogue box to re-set the tabs to show again or to change a saved profile.
