Tip for Week 3/20/06

Did you know that the dimensions in your drawing can also show what the metric length is very easily?

Open the Dimension Style Manager, highlight the style name of the dimensions you want to see, both Metric and English distances.  Pick the Modify button on the right, and then pick the Alternate Units tab.  Check the Display alternate units box, set Unit format to Decimal, set Precision to have no decimal places showing, set Multiplier for alternate units to 25.4, add "mm" to the suffix area, and finish with picking the Below primary value radio button.  Exit with the OK button and then the close button.

Use the Dimension Update button from the dimension toolbar and select the dimensions that you want to see the two formats displayed. Make sure the dimension style that was modified to show alternate units is the current dimension style and that your DIMSCALE variable is set correctly.  Issue a return to finish the select objects prompt, and your dimensions will now display both units.

The flip side of this setup would be if you were given a drawing that was in Metric and you want to see the English equivalent.  In this scenario, change the Unit format to Architectural, set precision to 1/16, set Multiplier for alternate units to .03937, and finish the dialogue box as mentioned before.  Update the dimensions using the Dimension Update toolbar button.
