Tip for Week 1/16/06

I've erased and purged as much as I can, but my file still seems too large for what's on the screen.  What else can I do to make my file smaller?

WBLOCK.  That's right, the WBLOCK command will strip out any extra data that is most likely not able to be selected or erased.  In days of old, users would WBLOCK their files to perform a full "Purge All".  Use the "Select Objects" method in the dialogue box with a left to right window, rather than a right to left crossing option window.  This will only grab what you see.  Some drawings will have unreferenced drawings or images that will be stripped away and any objects that are not easily selectable, such as cameras or lights, that would not be selected with this method either.

I had a drawing where I finally erased everything in frustration and still had the properties dialogue box list 488kb of something, somewhere in my file.  It was a file that I know has been around for many years with multiple users.  Who knows what was in or what had been corrupted over the years.  The final size after Wblocking the "empty" 488kb file... 45KB...

Go figure.
