Tip for Week 1/9/06

Why don't I just explode the block and edit it, then make it into a block again?

Well, for starters the REFEDIT command is a lot easier than all that work!  Just enter REFEDIT at the command line and choose your block.  Double-clicking on it in Autodesk 2005 products will also enact the same command.  This command will open a toolbar named "Refedit" to allow you to finish the command.  If you use the large red "X" in the upper corner of the toolbar, the toolbar will disappear, but the command is still active, so be fore warned, use one of the two buttons at the far right to complete the command.  Other than this very important step, the command is very simple.  Edit the block entities as needed and save your changes.  Done deal, no base point selection, no need to type the same name, and no purging and erasing of similar blocks to clear the definition.

A simple trick for blocks with several levels of nested blocks within the definition is to double-click or select the entity that resides on the correct level for editing.  As an example, if your block has dimensions two levels deep in the nesting structure, just double click on the dimension to edit that level.  A couple of test files and you'll be on your way to being a block editing expert in no time!
