Tip for Week 4/18/05

I usually try to keep the tips to basic commands and techniques, but I will address a very good visual trick for the more advanced 3D users this week.

When drawing or viewing 3D objects in any shade mode other than 2D wireframe, turn on the grid in your drawing.  This will give you a very distinct visual aid to where the X,Y plane is.  The grid, which shows the LIMITS of a drawing can be changed to a larger or smaller spacing if need be.  Right-click on the GRID button at the bottom of your screen, choose Settings and open the Snap and Grid tab to access the grid spacing boxes.

The visual grid can also be resized by re-setting your limits with a couple of mouse clicks or by typing in Cartesian coordinates as needed.  Make sure you are in the World coordinate system, to play it safe, when doing this! Don't change the base point of 0,0,0 either.  The 0,0,0 setting will allow you to use relative Cartesian coordinates in any UCS plane other than World.
