Tip for Week 01/26/04

AutoCAD 2004 based products have fundamentally changed when it comes to cutting and pasting entities into other applications like Microsoft Word.  In days gone by you would have to worry about the background color in AutoCAD before the initial clipboard copy or clip.  Now, the clipboard object will always use a white background in the receiving application.  If you want a black background you will have to use an image file for the insert.

The Mtext command is also fundamentally changed in 2004 products in that the width setting does not interfere with the dynamic capabilities of the text when moving or copying.  Older versions of AutoCAD the Mtext objects could not be dynamically viewed when moving or copying if the width setting was anything other than 0.  Those of you with older versions of AutoCAD who wish to see Mtext when editing simply give the Mtext a width of 0 in the properties dialogue box to fix the problem.  Zero or any other setting value within 2004 keeps the text dynamic!
Hooray, finally!
