The AutoCAD Today window is gone, but
should we dismiss opening AutoCAD without a dialogue box after such a bad
experience?
This is a question worth reviewing.
Go to the System tab of the Options dialogue box.
In the General Options area there is a listing for Startup. This area
is usually set to "Do not show a dialogue box". Pull down the list and
choose "Show Startup dialogue box". Pick OK and close AutoCAD.
Open AutoCAD and Tada! the AutoCAD today window Lite! No more
dinky, useless little graphic box to the right, no more browser window
below, just a simple listing of your previously opened files. Your
setup may have one of the other options listed, so pick the folder icon at
the top to show the nine last opened files. This list is actually very
useful when working on more than one drawing file in a project. This
start up dialogue box actually saves you the hassle of always closing a new,
blank drawing for every drawing session that is opened from the generic
AutoCAD icons or shortcuts created with a box stock install. The third
button from the left is used to start a drawing from a template that you
have created or the plain vanilla AutoCAD dwt file. The other two
choices are probably never used after the initial trial by most users.
If you open your files directly from a Windows Explorer window you may not
need the pop-up.
Try this setup for a little while.
You'll be surprised how much you might use it. If it is too
cumbersome, just switch back to no pop-up.
