So you can get a template from a
template too?
Yes, you sure can.
Here's a quick tip for setting up drawing templates with default printers
and using the template from a template trick.
1- Open the Acad.dwt file from the
Autocad template folder.
2- Activate the first layout tab to be current and right-click on the tab.
3- From the pop-up list pick rename and rename the tab to the paper size
that you will default the page setup to.
4- Right-click on the same tab again and pick Page Setup Manager. Set
your printer, page size, orientation, and Plot style table. If you
already have a file with a tab named and setup like this, pick the From
Template listing and navigate to that file and select the layout to import
into your template.
5- Create and setup any other tabs for printers that you usually use in the
file.
6- Use the SaveAs command to save the file as acad.dwt, in the AutoCAD
Template folder. Overwrite the existing Acad.dwt file.
7-Finally, open the Options dialogue box to the Files tab and expand the
Template Settings listing. Now expand the Default Template File Name
for Qnew, highlight the none option, and use the Browse button. This
will default to the AutoCAD template folder. Pick the newly revised
Acad.dwt file, and close the Options dialogue by picking the OK button.
Now anytime you want to use your master template pick the Qnew button and
save it to the new file name.
Anything to keep from navigating around the File dialogue box is worth the
extra effort.
