Tip for Week 06/14/04

Sometimes it's the little tricks that make the difference.
For those of you who work in 3D, a simple yet very effective trick to use for tracing objects with a polyline, to extrude later, is to set your global polyline width to be a very noticeable width.  If you are tracing small objects that are no bigger than 20' or 30', set your Plinewid variable to 1" or so.  If your tracings are larger, say 100' or so, set the Plinewid variable to 6".  If the objects to be traced are very large, such as an entire industrial building, you would set your polyline widths to about 1'.  This visual width really helps in clarifying what will be extruded and what will not.  Another advantage to this trick is that you can select the visual outside edge of the polyline to extrude, eliminating the need for the extrusion objects to be isolated and then extruded.
Happy extruding!
