Users of PostalCAD typically need to
compare several
different scenario's for new equipment layouts.
If you move equipment around in the same
drawing many times, you may
lose a very good solution because you can't evaluate
the multiple situations that
have occurred. The logic hear is very
simple. The more choices
to compare, the better the chance of choosing the
best solution. This
concept is where the SaveAs and Paste to Original
Coordinates commands come into play.
Start with your original drawing that
needs the updated layout and use the SaveAs command to make a copy.
A good suffix to be added to the original
file name would be "-01", "-02", etc..
Make several changes to the first new
file and keep in mind that you are progressively going to make
changes and then use the SaveAs command to make several
more variations to your equipment. You may
go back to the original file and start over also. The bottom
line hear is to create multiple choices for a solution rather than possibly
traveling down a single dead end path. Once
you have several variations on the task to be accomplished,
a logical decision can be made by using one drawing
or even parts from several of the scenario
drawings combined.
The next step is to use
the Windows Clipboard to copy geometry from the best of
your layout drawings to the Clipboard. This
will allow the Paste to Original Coordinates item in the Edit menu
pull-down to become active when
you are back in the original file. This
option will use the base point coordinate of 0,0,0
from the first drawing as the base point for the clipboard block.
The insertion point into your original
target drawing is automatically chosen to be at 0,0,0
when using the Paste to Original Coordinates
option.
Finally, open your original drawing
and delete the geometry that will be pasted from another drawing. Now
paste the new geometry to the
original coordinates needed in
your main drawing. |
